Spend a day in the life of an oyster with Ben Gonzalez and his team on the majestic preserve in Southold that was once owned by the Pluck family who had an oyster farming heritage of many generations on the North Fork.
In a ten-minute drive from Greenporter Hotel, you find yourself at the end of a long driveway that leads to the pristine inlet that is part of the Peconic Bay.
You are greeted by your host, Ben Gonzalez, a former marketing executive-turned oyster farmer, who welcomes you and explains what you will learn on this day in the life of an oyster.
From the seed to the beds and the harvesting, you will understand the relationship of the land, water and maritime culture of the North Fork which dates back to the Native Americans that inhabited this peninsula.
The tour ends with a beautifully displayed raw bar of oysters and accompaniments as well as some local wines. You will have time to ask additional questions and mingle with other agrotourists on this outing.
